Dave Smith, friend of TDSM, swam the annual 28.5 Mile Manhattan Island Marathon Swim — a full counter-clockwise circumnavigation of the island of Manhattan. This was the second leg on his quest to bag the Triple Crown of marathon swims: Catalina Channel, Manhattan and the English Channel.

Soon after the Torrance Beach Junior Lifeguards put the beat–down on the visiting teams from Cabrillo and Redondo, they all enjoyed free swim.

At the Half Moon Bay High School pool J-Mal had to battle outdoor showers, no lockers, cow pies, a toothless-hick named Jethro swimming in the next lane and the 'Deliverance' theme playing on the P/A system…the horror…the horror.
